Saving Sunflower Seeds in 4 Steps

Harvesting Sunflower Seeds

  1. Wait until the bees have pollinated your flower and the seeds have begun the ripening process. Timing is critical - reference (image 2).

  2. Cut light, breathable cotton or hessian fabric into the shape of a square cloth roughly 400mm x 400mm.

  3. Wrap cloth around sunflower face and tie off opposite corners behind it (image 1, 3).

  4. Harvest from plant when leaves become yellow and the seed head is heavy and hard.

  5. Save your sunflower seeds in a dry spot to plant next year.
